Surprise Proposal at Union Market | Washington, DC | Kristofer and Shalini

I loved photographing this sweet proposal at Union Market! Kristofer and Shalini live in New England, but they had planned a trip to DC and Kristofer knew this would be the perfect time to pop the question. Shalini loves celebrating Earth Day and tries to lead a sustainable lifestyle, so having her proposal occur on the holiday was an added bonus! And Kristofer also knew it would completely catch her off guard - on our first phone call he told me “she’ll never expect me to be organized enough to pull all this off” 😂😂😂

Kristofer made dinner reservations at Masseria, and told Shalini that they should get there early to walk around Union Market to see the murals. When they arrived at the Never Give Up heart wall, he casually approached me and asked if I would take a picture of them on his cell phone. It was the perfect cover for getting us all into place, and I quickly transitioned to my camera as soon as he knelt down.

I don’t know if there’s a better proposal spot than in front of a giant wall of hearts!!

These two were so cute together! They’re both doctors and met during their first year of med school. When they’re not busy taking care of patients they love to travel together, so it was perfect that their proposal happened on one of their trips!
