Surprise Proposal at Mrs. K's Toll House | Silver Spring, MD | Ken and Tai
Ken and Tai had one of the most intricate proposals I’ve ever photographed! Ken started planning for the big event months in advance. He invited 45 of their closest friends and family to meet them at Mrs. K’s Toll House in Silver Spring, MD so that they could witness the proposal. And when you’ve got that many people involved, of course that increases the chances of the surprise accidentally getting out to Tai! But everyone made it through without any slip-ups, and Tai was caught completely off guard.
Tai was under the impression that Ken was taking her out for a special surprise date night, and he had even done something similar the month before to throw her off! In September, he told her they were going out for a fancy date night but he didn’t give her any additional details. They ended up going out for a very nice dinner and to the opera, and Ken asked if she’d like to do more of these surprise date nights in the future. Of course Tai agreed, so Ken had her thinking this October date was all her idea. GENIUS. They both reserved October 12th in their calendars, and Ken set to work getting Tai pampered - he rented her a dress from Rent the Runway, got matching shoes, and made sure her hair and nails were done. She thought she was just getting spoiled, not knowing the biggest surprise was yet to come!
Both Ken and Tai’s moms were essential to the big day (Tai’s mom actually works in wedding design!), as they prepared all of the decor at Mrs. K’s Toll House. They thought of every detail and the room look absolutely gorgeous. I loved the table they had set up in front with framed photos of the happy couple, accented with luggage and a globe to signify their love of travel. There were also bags of popcorn as favors for all the guests, with “He popped the question” on them - so cute!
Everyone loved seeing Tai’s face as she walked into the room, and slowly realized that it was full of her friends and family! And Ken had such a sweet speech prepared for her.
Another big surprise that Ken orchestrated for Tai was to have one of her best friends travel in from out-of-state for the big moment. Tai was so shocked once she spotted her in the crowd!
We snuck outside for a few minutes to get some photos because Mrs. K’s Toll House has the most beautiful gardens!
It was so easy to see that this fun-loving couple are perfect for each other! I can’t wait to see what other adventures they have ahead of them. ❤️️❤️️❤️️
