Double Surprise Proposal at the Spanish Steps | Washington, DC | Amit and Laura
This surprise proposal at the Spanish Steps in DC was definitely a first for me - Amit and Laura both ended up proposing to each other!
John (the guitarist that Amit had hired) and I had arrived early and were chatting at the top of the steps, when we were approached by Sara who overheard us, and asked if we were there for a proposal. “Oh my gosh,” she said, “my friends are supposed to get engaged at this spot today too!” We discussed the timing, and quickly realized that their arrival times were only 20 minutes apart, so she texted her friend and told them to stall so they wouldn’t overlap with the first proposal couple.
A couple minutes later Sara was joined by her friend Dana, and as the two of them were talking we heard the names of who they were waiting for…. “Wait a minute, are you here for Laura and Amit?!” Turns out Laura was planning to propose to Amit also! She had asked her two friends to come grab photos, and of course Laura had no idea that Amit had hired me and a guitarist for the exact same moment at the same spot 😂😂😂
Amit and Laura had one of their first dates at the Spanish Steps and it’s also where they had their first photo taken together, so they both had the same idea that this location would be the perfect place to get engaged!
Our new joint photography crew had quite a few laughs about the situation. Poor Amit is texting me, apologizing that he’s running behind, and he’s trying to rush poor Laura out the door while she is simultaneously trying to stall because some rude couple is stealing her proposal spot 😂😂😂
As they walked down the steps, John started to play “Kiss” by Prince since Laura is a huge Prince fan!
And then it was Laura’s turn to propose!
And this was the moment when they both realized there were more people watching than they each had expected 😂
Dana and Sara surprised them with flowers and champagne to celebrate, and there was also a round of applause from some picnickers who set up at the bottom of the steps to watch the events unfold. (They were initially going to eat their lunch on the steps, but once they heard we were photographing a proposal they graciously stayed out of sight haha.)
They are just too cute together!
So glad both Laura and Amit were able to pull off their surprises in such a special location for them!
